“Town of Runners é um documentário sobre jovens maratonistas de Bekoji, uma aldeia das terras altas da Etiópia de onde têm saído alguns dos melhores atletas mundiais em longa distância, incluindo Tirunesh Dibaba, Kenenisa Bekele e Derartu Tulu.
O filme narra a história de duas jovens raparigas de uma aldeia etíope, e o seu caminho para uma vida diferente. Narrado pela sua amiga Biruk, o documentário acompanha os altos e baixos do seu percurso ao longo de três anos, enquanto se esforçam por se tornar atletas profissionais. Através da sua luta, o filme observa de modo único as ambições destes joven etíopes, que vivem entre a tradição e um mundo moderno.”
“Town of Runners is a feature documentary about young runners from Bekoji – an Ethiopian highland town which has produced some of the world’s greatest distance athletes, including Tirunesh Dibaba, Kenenisa Bekele and Derartu Tulu.
The film tells the story of two young girls, living in a rural town as they try to run their way to a different life. Narrated by their friend Biruk, it follows their highs and lows over three years as they try to become professional athletes. Through their struggle, the film gives a unique insight into the ambitions of young Ethiopians living between tradition and the modern world.”
